Striation is the process of dismantling a form into different strips and components.
Striation is also evident through the programs. Circulation through the site is governed by a series of ramps that separate different programs and functions in the site. The site implements movement through the interior and exterior, as one would enter from the roof and move in and out of the site, comparable to the Yokohama Project.
The Fontanals Golf Club House by Architects Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue influenced the site geometry and mainpulation. The concept of fracturing is evident in this diagram through the red lines cutting through the site.
Site contours.
Physical models that represent the manipulated site contours to comply with ADA requirements as well as offer spatial opportunities for habitation.
The striation operation strips the site into four different zones, represented through four parallel vertical lines. The four zones are located on different elevations on the site which have different heights; thus, providing the sensation of striation through the movement and circulation. In order to move across the site, one would move through different zones in a zig-zag and winding motion further enforcing the striation in the site. Similarly to the Fontonals Golf Club House, the aquarium is united with connecting rooms that serve as a horizontal striation.
The solar orientation and sun shading is depicted in the plan.
Exploded axonometric of the manipulated site, zones and lines that governed the geometry. Also, depicted are drainage, program, geometry and existing contours of the site.
Site manipulation final stage that shows different zones as well as interior and exterior relationship where program exists inside and outside the structure.
Sectional model of final manipulated contours.
This section depicts the programs of the aquarium and different zones.
Physical models representing interior and exterior relationship; as well as manipulated contours.
