Located in the heart of Los Angeles, the concept behind the Museum of Perception generated from our interest in the psychological affects architecture has on human beings, their state of mind and perception of space. The Museum of Perception would exhibit a series of artwork that ranges from dark to light, closed to open and quiet to lively. Throughout the design process, we discovered spatial, lighting and material qualities in a space that would influence human behavior.
The render above depicts the museum's location on the site in Downtown L.A. Site plan is also evident showing surrounding site contect.
Sections and interior renders.
Floor plans representing space in the museum and form. Diagrams depict the formal relationships and method of getting to the final geometry.
Structural exploded axonometric and diagram.
The museum was governed by the concepts of splitting and intersecting. These are evident in the form and circulation of the Museum of Perception. Visitors would enter from the main entrance at Grand Avenue and walk through the museum towards Olive while experiencing the splitting and intersecting of the architecture; as well as the experience of the different spaces in the museum.
