Located in the heart of Skid Row, the Link Apartments responds to the needs of the homeless population in Downtown while adhering to different sustainable measures. The open environment of the building, along with the curves and terracing of the floors allow for a unique experience when living in the residence. The design incorporates economic efficiency while taking into account the progression of Downtown Los Angeles.
Initial design moves were made through a series of concept models as shown below.
Using concept models and an in depth study of the site as a basis in the design process, a final development was drawn out as a series of diagrams that best illustrate the formal development of the design.
Link Apartments is designed with the human occupation, Zero Net Energy, codes and regulations, and structural and architectural qualities in mind.
The site plan includes the final ground floor plan on the site .
The ground floor of the Link Apartments includes different amenities that include but are not limited to the main lobby, library, community kitchen, clinics/health center, social services, etc.

The diagram on the left is a representation of the passive design elements in the building. Link Apartments incorporates a wood facade system that serves as a shield against the public and controls sun light into the units and wind. The material chosen for the facade incorporate the concept of sustainability.
The apartment also incorporates an aquaponics system in each unit to allow for a healthy, responsible lifestyle for residents of each unit. The solar PV panels on the roof generate electricity for the apartment.
Diagram illustrates the three circulation cores.
Diagrammatical floor plates represent link between both sides of the apartment.
Detail drawings: represent roof to floor connections.
